What is Aeromodelling?

Whenever we see in sky,we always think of a question that “Birds fly, so why can’t I?” But the reality is Human can’t fly,Perhaps even then, people understood the advantages of human flight. We can fly with the help of Airplanes ,helicopters, gliders , spacecraft and so on.

History of Aircrafts

  • From the early 1480’s until his death in 1519, the Florentine artist, engineer, and scientist, Leonardo da Vinci, dreamed of flight and produced the first drawings for an airplane, helicopter, ornithopter, and parachute.
  • In the early 17th century, serious aeronautical research was conducted by so-called “birdmen” and “wing flappers.”
  • On September 19, 1783, a sheep, a rooster, and a duck were suspended in a basket beneath a Montgolfier balloon.
  • In 19th century, aeronauts experimented with hydrogen gas-filled balloons and struggled to devise a method to control them and many more testing done by different scientist and then then comes a conclusion of aircraft.
  • On August 17, 1978 near Paris, France, a hot air balloon descended from the sky and landed in a cornfield.

What is Aeromodelling ?

Aeromodelling is the activity involving design, development and flying of small air vehicles. It is a very exciting and interesting way to learn, apply and understand science and engineering principles.

Aeromodelling generally involves small sized flying objects like Radio Controlled Aircraft (RC Aircraft), Gliders, Ornithopters, Boomerangs and Paper Planes.

It is a fun way of learning science of real aircraft while making small planes and gliders. Aeromodelling is a type of activity which can be learnt by any available materials like paper, cardboard, thermocol, some of the eamples of aermodelling are paper origami, balsa boards gliders etc. Although Aeromodelling looks like a lot of Aerospace/ Aeronautical engineering topic, it involves a lot of interdisciplinary concepts from various streams of engineering – primarily Aerospace/ Aeronautical, Mechanical, Electronics, Electrical and Computer Science. Aeromodelling gives a good understanding of the roles each of these engineering skills play in real aircraft industry and provides enormous opportunities to develop innovative thinking and implementation.
